How Mercari's seller fee works
Mercari charges sellers a 10% selling fee, taken from the combined amount of the item price and any shipping the buyer pays. Mercari's help center says this applies to listings created or updated on or after January 6, 2025, with no separate payment processing fee for those listings. Listing is free, and the fee is only charged when an item sells.
Withdrawing your earnings to a bank account by ACH is free. Instant Pay costs $3 and arrives in about 30 minutes. Sellers also cover overage charges for oversize or overweight packages, which are deducted from earnings, and frequent cancellations can trigger a cancellation fee of 5% of the item price, up to $25.
A worked Mercari example
An item sells for $40 with free shipping that costs you $6. The selling fee is 10% of $40, which is $4.00, so your payout is $36.00. If the item cost $12, your profit is $36.00 − $12 − $6 = $18.00, a 45% margin. If you charged the buyer $6 for shipping instead, the order would be $46 and the fee $4.60, so your profit would be $23.40, because you collect the $6 shipping and lose only 60 cents of it to the fee.
Mercari vs other marketplaces
A flat 10% is lower than eBay's 13.6% in most categories and Poshmark's 20% above $15, but higher than Depop's 0% US selling fee. Our eBay fee calculator, Poshmark fee calculator and Depop fee calculator show each side. Use our markup calculator to set a price that reaches your target margin on each platform.
