How Whatnot's seller fees work
Whatnot charges two fees when an item sells. The first is a commission, which is 8% as standard and is charged on the item price only. It can be lower for high-volume sellers and differs by category and country, and Whatnot resets seller rates every four weeks based on sales. The second is payment processing, 2.9% of the total order value plus 30 cents per order. There are no listing fees and no monthly subscription.
Because processing is charged on the whole order, shipping you collect from the buyer is part of the fee base. In total, most sellers pay roughly 10% to 12% of the order, depending on shipping and order size.
A worked Whatnot example
A $50 item with $5 shipping paid by the buyer is a $55 order. The commission is 8% of $50, which is $4.00. Processing is 2.9% of $55 plus $0.30, which is $1.90. Total fees are $5.90, so the payout is about $49.11. If the item cost $20 and shipping costs you $5, your profit is about $24.11, a 43.8% margin on the order. A 5% commission instead of 8% would add $1.50 to that profit.
Promotions and reduced rates
Whatnot runs promotions from time to time. In 2026 it has offered a 0% commission on the portion of an order above $1,500 in select categories, with standard processing still charged. It has also run short events with zero commission. These offers change, so check the seller help center for what applies to you. The toggle in this calculator lets you test the $1,500 offer.
How Whatnot compares with eBay and other platforms
For many categories Whatnot's total fee is similar to or lower than eBay's 13.6% final value fee, but live selling takes time and sales depend on you hosting shows. Compare using our eBay fee calculator, and use our markup calculator to price items so that you keep your target margin after fees.
